PHILIPPINES: The Philippines is looking to deepen its ties with Poland in the field of digital transformation, with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) signalling interest in closer cooperation across artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital government, the Philippine News Agency (PNA) reports.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda announced the development in a Facebook post on Thursday, saying a meeting had been held to explore how the two countries could build on each other's experiences in developing resilient digital infrastructure, expanding digital inclusion, and strengthening cybersecurity capabilities.

What was discussed

Aguda met with Katarzyna Wilkowiecka, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. and Ambassador-designate of Poland to the Philippines, alongside First Secretary Paweł Nowacki at the DICT office in Quezon City on Wednesday.

“We exchanged insights on artificial intelligence, digital government, and cybersecurity, and explored how both countries can learn from one another’s experiences,” Aguda said in his post.

He framed the potential partnership in terms of mutual benefit rather than a one-directional transfer of knowledge, noting that both countries stood to gain from the exchange.

“Through partnerships and knowledge-sharing, we can help create more opportunities for innovation and inclusive growth for our people,” he added.

A partnership oriented toward the future

Aguda expressed optimism about the direction of the bilateral relationship, stating that he looked forward to further strengthening the Philippines-Poland partnership and fostering collaboration that supports a "secure, innovative, and digitally empowered future" for both nations.

While specific agreements or joint initiatives have yet to be announced, the meeting marks an early-stage diplomatic signal that the Philippines is actively broadening its digital cooperation beyond its traditional partners in the region — and that Poland, as a growing player in European digital governance and cybersecurity, is a country Manila sees value in engaging more closely.
